Artist Statement:
My work draws on my love of tarot and oracle decks to explore archetypes and themes of duality that represent the fundamental and often contradictory experiences that define the lives of humans. In my paintings archetypes symbolize deeper, universal themes like good and evil, love and loss, or the journey of self-discovery. You can often find within the images a little wisdom, insight or cautionary tale.
My love of nature and the natural world helps me create images that represent many of these themes and ideas. I often use the elemental nature of our existence: earth, air, fire, water and ether as guideposts. Earth: representing grounding, stability, practicality, and the physical world. Air: symbolizes intellect, communication, and ideas. Fire: representing energy, passion, action, and transformation. Water: representing emotions, intuition, and the subconscious mind and ether: a fifth element, often referred to as Spirit, ether or void, which represents the essence of all things and the connection to the divine.
In my work I hope to capture the unseen aspects of reality, and in some cases a glimmer of what we might think of as magic. These themes represent the quirkiness of our universe, and it’s in this space that I like to marry ideas to create new worlds.
