Jessica Fortner is a contemporary Canadian artist living in Vancouver, British Columbia. She has a BFA from the Ontario College of Art & Design University in Toronto, Canada. After graduating she began her career as an illustrator, working with clients in advertising, editorial, publishing and music.

In September of 2019 she moved across the country from Toronto, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she has been focusing on large scale paintings exploring concepts of duality, quantum energy and entanglement, transmutation of forms and energy, patterns and geometry in nature, creatures and dream worlds.(Learn more about Jessica’s work in her artist statement)

Jessica’s paintings are illustrative and narrative-based. The exigent subject matter paired with bright vibrant colours, mimic two of the major Jungian archetypes: persona and shadow self, the persona being the bright vibrant paint that sits on the surface of the paper and the shadow self: the narrative being told through the painted visuals.

Jessica is co-founder, editor and designer of the online arts magazine Squidface & The Meddler. A magazine she started with her partner to share some of their favourite creatives living and working in Canada.
